What is direct point cloud registration (cloud-to-cloud)?
This method uses common points from the initial scan file and the following scan files to determine the relative position of each scan compared to nearby stations. Once the entire point cloud has been accurately aligned together, it is connected to an existing coordinate system. Target points that were previously measured using a total station are then assigned coordinate values based on the reference survey data. This is the final step in registering the scan stations into the control network. With this precise method, we can connect boundary survey data with millions of point cloud data points, each containing real-world dimensions and true color information.
